Back to School Allowance

As the new school year approaches preparing for the return to the classroom can be a significant expense. To help ease this burden, I would like to remind you about the Back to School Clothing and Footwear Allowance.

This allowance is designed to assist parents with the cost of uniforms and footwear for their children as they head back to school.

Who is eligible?
• The allowance is available to parents or guardians who are receiving certain social welfare payments or participating in approved employment schemes, education, or training courses.
• To qualify, children must be between the ages of 4 and 22, with 18-22-year-olds in full-time education.

How much can you receive?
• The allowance is €160 for each eligible child aged 4-11.
• For children aged 12-22, the allowance is €285.

How do I apply?
• Most families will receive the payment automatically if they qualify, but if you don’t get a notification by the end of June, you can apply online at MyWelfare.ie or request a form from the Department of Social Protection.

Important dates:
• Payments are typically made in July, so make sure your details are up to date to avoid any delay.
