North Inner City Development Authority

Mary was delighted to introduce Fianna Fáil Spokesperson for Dublin John Lahart TD to Lord Mayor of Dublin City Cllr Niall Ring this week and present the Lord Mayor with  Fianna Fáils Dublin North Inner-City Development Authority Bill 2018.

The Dublin North Inner-City Development Authority Bill 2018 which was introduced in Dáil Éireann by John Lahart TD last month will for the first time put the regeneration of this historic part of our capital city on a statutory footing.

The legislation recognises the importance of properly regenerating the North Inner-City not just for the area itself and those living there but also for the country as a whole given it’s in the heart of our Capital.

John Lahart said “The meeting was a worthwhile opportunity to exchange views regarding the bill and to seek the Lord Mayor’s full support for it to be passed but also to relay some of the serious concerns of those living in the area.

“As a party we are determined to address the root causes of poverty and disadvantage in the area and to champion the unique urban development opportunities that exist there.”

Mary said  “It is great that the Lord Mayor shares with us a real and meaningful vision for the future of the North Inner City and understands better than most the enormous potential of the area.”

“A North Inner City Development Authority will build on the short-term work carried out as part of the Mulvey Report and forge a model for urban regeneration that can be applied to other urban areas in need of regeneration.

Mary first proposed a Statutory Authority in 2016 as a model with the potential to make long-term commitments to address the root causes of disadvantage and champion sustainable long-term regeneration of the area into the jewel of the crown of our Capital.

Mary says “The North Inner-City Development Authority will replicate the successes of other similar authorities such as the Grangegorman Development Authority and Temple Bar Development Authority.

A Statutory Authority will protect the regeneration of the Dublin’s north inner city from the ever-changing winds of political fortunes.”

With the Lord Mayors support Mary and John will be hosting a half-day conference in the Mansion House this September to raise awareness of the bill and to engage the wider public in its debate.
