The East Coast of Ireland was hit with an unprecedented and intense level of rainfall yesterday, lasting from early in the afternoon to late in the night. Met Eireann confirmed that 80ml of rainfall fell during this time, equating to one months rainfall in half a day. In our constituency parts of Cabra, Phibsborough, Drumcondra and the Navan road were badly flooded. In particular homes on Dingle Road, Leix Road, Navan Road, Blackhorse Avenue and Botanic Avenue were badly affected. Last night I worked with residents and Dublin City Council to assist residents to limit damage to their homes and businesses. This morning Dublin City Council have been out clearing and disinfecting the roads and paths. I have raised the issue of no advance warning from DCC and delay in declaring it an emergency with the City Manager. I am also seeking emergency financial support for homeowners who due to previous flooding events are without insurance. Although rain is forecast again today it is not expected to last as long or be as heavy. Fingers crossed. Mary.
