Moore Streets future

The public are being asked to help define a future for street trading on Moore Street.

Dublin City Council’s Expert Group, Chaired by Mary Fitzpatrick, is determined to identify a viable future for Dublin’s oldest fruit and vegetable street market and is inviting the public to help define the future of street trading on Moore Street via an on-line survey HERE.

Mary and others are very concerned that traditional street trading is no longer viable and urgent action is needed to help chart a course for the future.  Mary is working to define and preserve the future of street trading on the famous Dublin Street.

Moore Street is Dublin’s oldest fruit and vegetable street market.  Private and state neglect of the street have led to dereliction.  Footfall on the street has decreased dramatically.  Changed consumer behaviour and alternative retail offerings make traditional street trading increasingly less viable.  The number of traders on the street is at an all-time low.  The very survivability of Dublin’s historic Moore Street as a city street market is very uncertain.

The survey seeks to identify what the street means to users, what they would like to see on sale their and what hours best suit. The results of the survey will help to shape a modern solution that can preserve the best of the past but meets the requirements of all who use the street in the modern age.

Dublin City Council’s Expert Group is determined to identify and define a vibrant, viable and valuable city street market on Moore Street.  We want the people who will shop on the street to help define that new future and Mary encourages the public to have their say before the deadline of July 8, 2020.
