Wind Energy

Mary was pleased to receive a briefing from Irish Wind Energy Association and congratulates the more than 4,000 workers who have made Ireland #1 for on shore wind energy generation in the world.

Ireland generated 30% of its electricity from on-shore wind farms in 2018.  This wind energy allowed Ireland avoid €432m in foreign fossil fuel imports and 3.1m tonnes of carbon emissions in 2018.  Mary supports the development of off-shore wind farms which will allow us achieve our objective of 70% electricity from renewable energy by 2030.

Following the meeting with IWEA Mary made representations to the Minister calling for Wind Energy Development Guidelines and the Marine Planning and Development Management Bill to be published and enacted in the Autumn term of the Oireachtas.
