In 2015, as a City Councillor, Mary supported Dublin City Council’s acquisition of Dalymount Park in order to save the historic grounds. Mary recently visited the stadium with Fianna Fáil Minister for Sport, Thomas Byrne TD, where they discussed the redevelopment of the stadium with Bohemian’s Chief Operating Officer, Daniel Lambert.
Dalymount is an integral part of the local history. Since 1901 and as the home of Irish football, it has been at the heart of Irish sport and the community in Phibsborough. Progress on the stadium’s renovation has been disappointingly slow but following Mary’s visit to the stadium, Mary has secured the support of the Minister for Sport for the stadium’s redevelopment. After years of talks, the design team now intend to apply for planning permission in May 2023.
Mary will continue to work with the club to secure the necessary government and city council so that this historic stadium can thrive once again.
