Important Voting Information

Please read the following before you go to vote on Friday (especially about ensuring that your Ballot Paper is stamped correctly).

  • Voting in Council (Local) and European Elections is on Friday 07 June 2024 from 7am to 10pm.
  • If you have your Polling Card, please check the location of your Polling Station and bring your Polling Card and photo identification with you when you go to vote.
  • If you did not receive your Polling Card, you can still vote as long as you are on the election register. Check www.voter.ie which will also tell you your Polling Station and Elector Number (please take a note or screen shot of this).
  • Everyone should bring photo identification when you go to vote.
  • You will receive your Council Ballot Paper and if you are permitted, a second Ballot paper for the European elections. Every Irish citizen aged 18 and over who is on the register of electors can vote in the European election. If you are from another EU member state but are living in Ireland you can vote in the European election in Ireland.
  • You must start off with Number 1 on each of the Ballot Papers (one of the most common errors is someone voting 1, 2, 3 on one Ballot Paper and then continuing 4, 5, 6 on the other – in this case the second Ballot Paper is a spoilt vote as the Courts have ruled that there must be a clear Number 1 preference on each Ballot Paper).

When the person at the desk crosses off your name and goes to give you your Ballot Papers, please watch that they stamp them / perforate them correctly. If they forget to stamp / perforate your ballot, it will be a spoilt ballot and will not be counted.
