Sean McDermott Street Update

Mary recently requested an update from the Minister for the OPW on progress of the development of the site of the former Magdalene laundry on Sean McDermott street. The Minister replied with a comprehensive response detailing the 5 year plan for the site.

It will be a National Centre that will stand as a National Memorial to honour all those who were resident in Mother and Baby Homes, Industrial Schools, Reformatories, Magdalen Laundries and related institutions.

It will include:

  • a museum and exhibition space
  •   a research centre and repository of records related to institutional trauma in the 20th century which will form part of the National Archives
  • a place for reflection and remembrance
