The Residential Tenancies Bill has passed meaning students will not have to pay rent for their accommodation outside of the academic term!
The bill ensures student accommodation will follow the traditional September to May academic year, unless a student requests a tenancy in excess of 41 weeks.
This builds on the changes the Government made in 2021 to restrict the payments that can be demanded by accommodation providers from students to a maximum of two months in advance. The bill also gives extra protections and supports to students by giving them access to the Residential Tenancies Board.
