Governments superficial PR led approach fails North Inner City

There is an undeniable link between the lack of meaningful Government commitment to the North Inner City and the spiralling gun crime on our streets.

15 murders in the past two years prove the Governments superficial PR led approach has failed and will continue to fail.   This is not acceptable for our community.

Mary’ extends her condolences to the family and friends of the latest fatalities as a result of gun crime and all those affected.

Mary believes there is a direct link between the violence and the lack of investment in essential social infrastructure in the North Inner City.

The systemic neglect of the social infrastructure, the lack of affordable homes and employment opportunities in the area are leading young men and women into serious criminality. The allure of status and cash from involvement in crime is attractive for more and more people in the absence of any other opportunities.

The Governments North Inner City Taskforce largely ignored the practical suggestions Mary made in her comprehensive submission to it back in 2016 which you can read HERE

The North Inner City Taskforce is failing to address the fundamental issues and operating only at a very superficial level. Painting lamp posts is no substitute for an honest confrontation with the underlying problems.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses of the latest shooting to contact them at Store Street Garda Station on 01 666 800.
