Cllr Fitzpatrick welcomes Dublin bid to become host city for European Championships in 2020

Dublin City Cllr Mary Fitzpatrick has today welcomed the announcement from the Football Association of Ireland that a bid has been submitted for Dublin to become a host city for the European Championship 2020.

Chairperson of Dublin City’s Strategic Policy Committee (Arts & Culture) Mary Fitzpatrick said “I am delighted at today’s announcement that the FAI have submitted a bid to UEFA aiming to make my home-town Dublin one of the 13 host cities of Euro 2020.  The Aviva Stadium is a world-class venue at which the games would be played.  I want to take this opportunity to give my full support to the FAI, both personally and in my capacity as a Dublin City Cllr, and look forward to hearing a positive outcome to this bid in the future”.

Cllr Fitzpatrick continued “This bid comes in the same week as the European Parliament announced that Ireland and Croatia have been successful in their bids to host the European “Capital of Culture 2020”.  I have called for Dublin to submit the winning bid and will work with Dublin City Council to progress this option for our City”.
