Dublin Bus Connects

Last year the National Transport Authority, NTA, commenced public consultation on redesigning Dublin’s Public Bus Network.  Their stated objective is to reduce journey times and increase reliability and capacity of the bus service.

Mary believes an affordable, efficient and reliable public transport service is essential for our city and increasing the capacity and efficiency of the bus service is to be welcomed.

However, the NTA’s proposals are not perfect.  Mary made a detailed written submission to the NTA, met with and continues to engage with the NTA to address issues of concern to residents and businesses on the Navan Road, Pelletstown, Cabra, Phibsborough, Drumcondra, Glasnevin and Stoneybatter areas.

The NTA are currently consulting on the proposed Blanchardstown to City Center  and the Swords to City Center Bus Corridors.

The NTA states the Blanchardstown to City Center Corridor will have the following impact:

  • Reduce journey time by 30-40minutes
  • Impact approximately 100 properties
  • Remove approximately 87 on street parking spaces
  • Remove 200 trees, with a promise to replace them
  • Miscellaneous road traffic restrictions and changes including:
  • Restricting private vehicles on Old Cabra Road to “access only”
  • Diverting traffic from Old Cabra Road to surrounding roads e.g. Blackhorse Avenue, Cabra Road, Rathoath Road and other surrounding roads
  • Private vehicles will not be allowed enter Prussia Street from Manor Street
  • Aughrim street to remain two way and be designated main arterial route to city

The NTA states the Swords to City Centre Corridor will have the following impact:

  • Reduce journey time by 30 mins
  • Remove approximately 100 On-Street Parking spaces
  • Remove and replace approximately 170 Roadside Trees
  • Widen Drumcondra bridge
  • Santry village traffic restrictions will divert private traffic to surrounding areas

There are many other elements to the proposal and full details are available HERE or you can see the plans at my office at 90 Dowth Avenue, Monday – Friday 09.30-13.00.  I am happy to assist anyone wishing to make a submission or requiring advice.

The deadline to make a submission is March 1, 2019.  Submissions can be made on www.busconnects.ie or by post to Core Bus Corridor Project, National Transport Authority, Dun Scéin, Harcourt Lane, Dublin 2.

The NTA is holding public forums to which representatives of residents groups are invited to send one member, more details HERE.
