Affordable Homes

Dublin City Council has confirmed to Mary that it is in the process of acquiring a vacant site on Bannow Road adjacent to the Batchelor’s factory in Cabra west.

DCC does not yet have detailed plans but has indicated it is likely to develop Social Housing on this site.

DCC has unfortunately advised Mary that no Affordable Housing will be built on the site due to the absence of a Government policy for same.

Since taking office in 2011 the Government has built zero new social or affordable homes in Dublin Central.

In the same period private developers have built 1,000s of student accommodation units, hotel rooms and offices in Dublin Central.

Due to the governments failure to build new social and affordable homes the cost of a home in Dublin Central is beyond most average earners. This is directly contributing to the homeless crisis and increased wage demands.

Mary believes state owned lands in Dublin Central should be used to provide social and affordable homes for working people in Dublin Central.

Mary is actively campaigning for affordable homes to be built on state owned lands so that people can both live and work in Dublin Central.
