From when Mary was first elected in 2004 she championed the redevelopment of Phibsorough as a prime urban center.
The redevelopment of Phibsborough Shopping Centre and Dalymount stadium are critically important for regeneration of our prime urban centre and should be undertaken in an integrated way.
It is more than four years since DCC acquired Dalymount Stadium and took responsibility for leading its redevelopment. Feasibility, assessment and design team are in place. Funding for the stadium redevelopment is pending.
Sadly, recent media reports that plans to re-develop Phibsborough Shopping Centre are under threat due to a dispute between the developer and Tesco is old news and reflects poorly on all parties.
In 2018 Tesco objected to the planning application and voiced their objections at the An Bord Pleanala Oral hearing. Mary along with other concerned residents, made a detailed submission to the Shopping Center planning application.
Mary called for Dalymount Stadium and the Phibsborough Shopping Centre to be redeveloped in parallel to deliver a high-quality multiuse complex providing a mix of housing, recreation, cultural, community and commercial units.
Mary has called for Dublin City Council, as the lead developer with Bohemians on the Dalymount site, to take the lead to solve this impasse.
Mary has asked the Deputy Chief Executive of Dublin City Council to invite the developers, Tescos and Bohemians to talks aimed at finding an agreement to end the dispute over the plans.
Mary is a candidate for Phibsborough in the local elections on May 24th, 2019. If Mary is elected to represent Phibsborough Mary will submit a motion to the first meeting of the new city council calling for the developers, Tesco and Bohemians to meet with the elected representatives for Phibsborough to resolve the impasse and accelerate the redevelopment.
The re-development of Dalymount Stadium and Phibsborough Shopping Centre presents a unique opportunity to regenerate the village.
Progress to date has been too slow. These sites present a once in a generation opportunity to create a quality, sustainable urban village centre where people of all ages can live, work and socialise. If Mary is elected to represent Phibsborough, Mary will champion its delivery.
