On June 18th 2019 An Bord Pleanala advised Mary of its decision to refuse planning permission to Scanron Developments to construct 299 apartments on the former Smurfit site.

An Bord Pleanala considered the design sub-optimal, would not integrate or enhance the existing residential architectural area and would be contrary to proper planning and sustainable development.

The developers had previously declined Mary’s invite to meet with concerned local residents.  Mary hopes the developers will take on board the feedback from the local community contained in the more than 100 submissions to An Bord Pleanala .  The developers should revise and resubmit a more sustainable and appropriate application including social and affordable homes soon.
