In the Seanad I raised with the Minister for Transport the need to prioritise funding for the DART+ South West project to allow it progress.
I highlighted the strong case for a new station in Cabra, noting that approximately 26,000 people live within the catchment and would gain improved connectivity to Dublin city.
While the indicative NDP schedule proposes commencement in 2030, I urged the Government to accelerate delivery given the project’s readiness and the pressing need for better transport options.
The Minister confirmed a new station at Cabra is being developed in parallel with the DART+ programme and is advancing toward statutory planning. Timing of construction will be considered once approval is secured.
The Government is actively exploring EU funding opportunities and the 2028 NDP review may allow further acceleration of major transport projects.
