Parnell Cultural Quarter

Six years on from the launch of the Parnell Square Cultural Quarter, Mary renews her call to the Minister for Finance and the Government to provide funding for the redevelopment of Parnell Square.

In 2013 Mary welcomed the announcement by Dublin City Council to regenerate the old Colaiste Mhuire buildings on Parnell Square, build a new city library and create a cultural quarter for our capital city.

Parnell Square

The plans as announced were really exciting and ambitious as is appropriate for such an important site.  Unfortunately the proposal was not backed-up with any Government funding and so relied entirely on trying to attract private investment.

Since 2013 Government has demonstrated a complete lack of commitment and ambition for regeneration of this prime state owned site.  It is totally unrealistic of Government to expect private investors to put their investment funds into hugely valuable state owned sites if the state itself shows no commitment.

Mary received unanimous support at the November meeting of the Central Area Committee for her motion calling for  the Government to provide funding to commence the vital redevelopment of Parnell Square and creation of a new cultural city quarter.
