Scramblers and Safety

The misuse of scramblers and quads in Dublin Central has cost far too many lives and destroyed countless others and robbed public spaces from our communities. I welcome the Roads Traffic and Roads Bill 202 that will address this issue.

An Garda Siochana and the Road Safety Authority have urged parents not to buy scramblers as Christmas presents and have warned of the potential dangers of the misuse of these vehicles. Their calls, however, have gone unheeded. This piece of legislation will give the Gardaí extra powers to seize vehicles like quads and scramblers that are used in an anti-social way. The bill also removes the requirement that driving must be done ‘in a public place’ before it can be dealt with.
This new piece of legislation will save lives, protect others and reclaim public spaces back for communities.
