St Bernards Reopened

On October 31st 2019 Mary was delighted to welcome the Lord Mayor of Dublin City to reopen St Bernards Youth Club on Fassaugh Avenue.

St Bernards was first opened in 1969 and for many decades local volunteers ran a vibrant and fun Youth Club on the premises.

The Youth Club ceased to operate in the 90’s and the building was unused until former members offered it to Cabra 4 Youth where Mary is one of the founding voluntary Directors.

Over the last eighteen months Mary and other Directors, staff and volunteers of Cabra 4 Youth have secured funding and worked to reopen the building.

Mary thanks Dublin City Council, the Gardaí, City of Dublin Youth Services Board, Department of Justice and Youth Affairs, Cabra 4 Youths amazing staff and volunteers and most importantly the young people of Cabra for helping us re-open St Bernards.

In addition to Cabra 4 Youths existing base in John Paul II Community Sports Center, Cabra 4 Youth intends to operate its dedicated youth service and justice youth diversion programme from St Bernards on Fassaugh Avenue.

Unfortunately due to insufficient Government funding Cabra 4 Youth staff are on reduced four day week. We are asking the Minister to fund a minimum five day service.

We are inviting people from the local community to get involved on a voluntary basis to maximise the hours St Bernards can be open and available to young people in Cabra.

Anyone interested in volunteering can get more information from Cabra 4 Youths Manager Maria on 01) 817 8473.
