Strategic Housing Development’s

Strategic Housing Development legislation has failed to deliver homes in compact sustainable urban communities like Dublin Central and I support Governments decision to retire the legislation in 2021.

SHDs is a massive missed opportunity by the state.  Speeded up planning decisions but at a cost of quality housing developments. Government should retire SHD legislation at the end of 2021.  SHDs have delivered zero social and affordable homes in Dublin Central.  It has failed to deliver on it’s promise of homes in compact sustainable communities.  Judicial Reviews are not acceptable as appeal process for citizens.

Joint Oireachtas Committee must work with the Department of Housing to ensure quality applications to deliver sustainable compact communities.
