Vaccine Update

Mary has received the following update from the Department of Health on the vaccine rollout :

Up to Sunday January 31st there has been 199,800 vaccines administered. 49,300 people have now been fully vaccinated, having received first and second doses.
Following a recommendation from the European Medicines Agency (EMA) on Friday January 29th , the European Commission has granted a Conditional Marketing Authorisation (CMA) for the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine

AstraZeneca had said that initial deliveries of their vaccine to the European Union would fall short of the targeted volumes because of a production problem.
Before that AstraZeneca announcement, Ireland had expected to receive a total of 1.4 million doses of the three approved vaccines (Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, AZ) from the start of the vaccination programme to the end of March. Up to Sunday evening, the confirmed deliveries of AZ vaccines would have reduced that total to ca. 1.1m doses.
