Affordable Housing Bill

Mary is urging all members of the Oireachtas to support the Governments proposed Affordable Housing Bill which includes:

  • First scheme of direct state built affordable homes starting at €160k in over a decade
  • First ever national cost rental scheme, with rents at minimum 25% below market rents
  • Financial support for 1st time buyers to buy new build homes with Government Shared Equity Loan
  • Doubling of Social and Affordable homes to a minimum 20% in every development

It is more than ten years since there was a state backed Affordable Home Scheme.  Far too many people are paying more for rent than they would for a mortgage and are unable to secure an affordable home.

Mary is working with the Minister for Housing Darragh O’Brien and Government to increase the supply of affordable homes in every Local Authority area in the country.

Mary believes everyone should have access to a secure and affordable home to either purchase or rent. Mary is working to ensure Government delivers on this basic human right.
