Magdalene Laundry, Sean McDermott Street

Mary welcomes government commitment to create a National Centre for Research and remembrance at the former Magdalene Laundry site on Sean McDermott Street, Dublin 1. Survivors of the Magdalene Laundry must be consulted on any plans for the site and it is important that the site site is reimagined, renovated and restored in a way that positively impacts the surrounding area.

The masterplan for the site includes:

  • Archive and museum space within the historic convent and chapel buildings
  • Newly-built archive and museum space adjacent to the historic buildings, encompassing a garden space for reflection and remembrance
  • Purpose-built spaces for educational and community-based family and parenting support facilities
  • 25 units of universal design social housing.

A public consultation period will run until 15 September, 2023. To make a submission and for more information, click HERE.
