Scramblers and Safety

The misuse of scramblers and quads in Dublin Central has cost far too many lives and destroyed countless others and robbed public spaces from our communities. Mary has supported and campaigned for legislation which addresses the misuse of scramblers in public space.

The Road Traffic and Roads Act 2023, supported by Mary in the Seanad, has resulted in multiple seizures of scramblers and quad bikes across Dublin in December 2023 and in March 2024. The new legislation gives Gardaí new powers to seize these vehicles when misused particularly on roads, in public parks and on green spaces. This will will save lives, protect others and reclaim public spaces back for our communities.
