Community Policing

Cabra

Mary is a founding member and director of the Cabra Community Policing Forum.  At its community forum meeting on May 28th, 2019 Gardai reports from Cabra, Bridewell and Mountjoy were reviewed.

Issues discussed include the following:

  • Garda resources for Cabra
  • Community Policing
  • Garda Drugs unit
  • Scramblers and quads
  • Congregating youths

People living in Cabra are deeply concerned over the persistent and dangerous use of scramblers and quads in the area.   The Gardai outlined their operations to tackle the issue.  There is significant frustration over Fine Gaels failure to support new Fianna Fáil legislation which would greatly help the Gardai tackle the issue in the following ways:

  • Establish a national register for scramblers and quads
  • Make it illegal to sell scramblers without registering it
  • Make it illegal to sell scramblers to underage
  • Give power to confiscate and dispose

It was agreed that the Cabra Community Policing Forum will write to ask the Minister for Justice to support the Fianna Fáil legislation . In the meantime, the Gardaí, DCC and Cabra Community Policing Forum will take action to address the issue locally.
